Rihanna is GQ Man of the Year

Machine Gun Riri is wearing more tattoos than clothing in her new spread for GQ’s Men Of The Year issue which hits news stands this month. In the new cover story, Ri chops it up with GQ writer Jay Bulger (who spent time with the singer while she was parading around NYC with Chris Brown) about two of her favorite subjects: music and sex. In the interview, she says that while some people just see her as dollar signs, she’s not into making corny music that’s not real and she admits that her highly sexual personality comes from her culture.

On People Seeing Her As Only A Product
Sometimes a person looks at me and sees dollars. They see numbers and they see a product. I look at me and see art. If I didn’t like what I was doing, then I would say I was committing slavery.
I want to make music that’s hopeful, uplifting. Nothing corny or super-sentimental. I just want it to have the feeling that brings you out of whatever you’re going through. I want it to spark that fire. I want it to be real, authentic, and raw.
On Being Highly Sexual
That comes from my culture. That’s just the way it’s always been, and I think that for people, especially in America, they make it like the forbidden fruit, but that only makes kids more curious….I was a lot more naive about the way I moved and the way I was being perceived. The more you hear people talk about ‘Oh, you’re a sex symbol,’ it just makes you think, ‘Why are you saying that?’ And I figured it out.
On Her Turn Ons
I like to feel like a woman.  I have to be in control in every other aspect of my life, so I feel like in a relationship, like I wanted to be able to take a step back and have somebody else take the lead.

There’s no proof of that being for my love. That’s my answer to that question.

I feel like people fail to realize that this girl is still a baby. She's trying to figure things out on her own. I agree with Rihanna when she says America acts like its a forbidden fruit. I was in bed last night unable to sleep so I decided to play around with my phone. I saw the Trey Songz email titled "From My Heart". I opened it and began reading, I thought that was the cutest email ever. I know that his angel's will be touched when read this. I want to share my deepest feelings with you on how appreciative I am to have fans, friends, Angels and loved ones like you all. This journey I began over 10 years ago has taught me so much. It has given me the faith to believe, the strength to overcome and courage to wear my heart on my sleeve for you. Sharing the tears from my mother's eyes, as she tells me how proud she is of me. Sharing the tears from my eyes as I realize what she sacrificed for me to do what I do. I would not be if it wasn’t for the love we all share for one another.

What makes a true fan? Well, as one Angel put it, "I believe that an Angel believes in the power to make a difference. Through the music that she loves, she gets inspired. Through the stories that she hears in their lyrics, she relates to her life. Through the sweat and tears at every performance, she feels a sense of mutual love and respect, the give and take! A true fan doesn’t buy into the material, they buy into the emotional. I’m a fan, but I live my life as an Angel. Empowered by Trey to Make a Difference."

Because I hear the stories all around the world, I just wanted to say Thank You for another opportunity to give each of you a part of me. I promise to love, I commit to make a difference, and I will never take you for granted.

On advice she received from Tyra
Well, I was lucky Tyra was my manager. I was the only girl who she managed from the show, and she taught me that even though this might be fun and I might like it, that it’s my bread and butter and that this is a business. She’s a business woman and she was the best teacher. Because of her, I’ve been able to stay beyond afloat in this business and make money for myself doing what I love to do.

On if she’s dating
No, I’m focusing on my career. I have 2 dogs and my family. I had a battle last year with my father, he had a massive stroke. So, I found myself buckling down and spending time with my family and working on my career. Once you get done working and spending time with your family, all you have time left to do is sleep.

On if she’d do anything different since her last relationship [with Flo Rida]
My last relationship was amazing. He was a great guy and I had a great time. You grow up, you learn, you change. There isn’t anything that I would do differently; I have no regrets. I wasn’t looking for love when I found my last lover, so hopefully it comes again that way. I’d rather have loved and lost than to not have loved at all.

On her goals for the future
Well, I’ve been doing a lot of writing and creating shows. I would love to sit back and see my shows that I’ve produced and created on television. I created and produced a show a few years back on BET J, but I would love to see them on a larger scale, see what’s in my brain and see my shows come to fruition on the big screen.

Rihanna Dishes About Her Dating And Sex Life On The Ellen Show

Rihanna: “I’m not dating anyone right now. I’m not dating at all.”

Ellen: “I would think you would be intimidating to men. First of all, having the title ‘The Sexist Woman Alive” (From Esquire Magazine) I don’t know if you wear a banner or what happens. Is there a crown? When you’re the “Sexist Woman Alive” men are going to be intimidated. How do you guys…Are they scared of you?”

Rihanna: “I would say at times it can be intimidating but then it’s no good. I can’t have guys that are intimidated by me. I like men that are more aggressive but mysterious but I like a man to be very sure. I like them to be sure of them selves and know that you’re the man. I’m the lady and the only way for us to make this work is for us to play our roles. You know, I can’t really be the man for you. I don’t want to have to be. I’m the man at work all the time.”

Ellen: “I think especially for a powerful woman and you make a lot of decisions the whole day. Your Work is to make decisions. You want somebody else to take control and make those decisions in a relationship. And that’s hard to find a guy who’s not going to be intimated by the power you have. And, realize there’s got to be another side.”

Rihanna: “Definitely. It can be difficult but I think really right now, I’m not giving the time. I don’t have the time. I’m not necessarily happy being single. It’s not really that cool. It sucks but it is, what it is. Let me say this right, because I don’t want to make it seem like, my work is my everything. I do put a lot into my Jobs. Most of my time if not all of it. It definitely affects my personal life. My personal life is pretty much non-existent. Which is not good, not for the long run. Not for me, not for “her” [points to in-between her legs] It’s not fun.”
That’s why I stay on Twitter a lot. So I can conversate with my fans. Because I don’t get any booty calls.”

Ellen: [laughs] So many things to say right now, but I won’t.
